Hitachi Rail to Deliver Control Systems for Sydney Metro West

Hitachi Rail has been awarded a contract to deliver Central Control Systems (CCS) and Integrated Communications (iCOM) for the Sydney Metro West project, a new 24-kilometre underground metro line linking Greater Parramatta with Sydney’s central business district.

The company will act as a subcontractor to the Metro Trains West Consortium, a joint venture between MTR Corporation and CRRC Corporation Limited. Under the scope of work, Hitachi Rail will provide the systems responsible for coordinating train operations and enabling integrated communications across the metro network.

The CCS will support real-time monitoring and control of metro operations, while the iCOM platform will provide the communications backbone required for operational coordination and passenger information services. Together, these technologies are designed to support reliable, high-capacity metro operations in a fully underground environment.

The award builds on Hitachi Rail’s previous delivery of similar technologies for the Sydney Metro Northwest and City & Southwest lines, enabling continuity in system architecture and operational integration across Sydney’s expanding metro network.
